Right to Information Officers

The Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act) is a legislation enacted in India to ensure transparency and accountability in the functioning of government institutions. Under this Act, every Indian citizen has the right to seek information available with government offices and to receive such information within the prescribed time limit.

Under the Act, citizens can seek records, orders, reports, details of schemes, expenditure details, and other relevant information from public authorities such as Grama Panchayats, Block Panchayats, District Panchayats, Government Departments, Public Sector Undertakings, and other public institutions.

On receipt of an RTI application, the Public Information Officer (PIO) is generally required to provide the requested information within 30 days. If the applicant is not satisfied with the reply, an appeal may be filed before the designated Appellate Authority.
